Finding Motivation When Hiding

Finding motivation when hiding

Sometimes it happens to feel down in the dumps and not be able to find the motivation within us. Everything becomes dark and the light that first illuminated our path seems to have gone out and does not want to know to come back on. Often in these moments of despair we forget an important thing: after the storm, the sun always comes out.

Motivation is one of the most important feelings, because it pushes us to make decisions  and to move forward; it helps us never stop. If you lack motivation, chances are you’ve fallen into the temptation to procrastinate and if this condition lasts too long and you don’t find a solution, you may eventually give up on your plans. However, such a choice will undermine your self-esteem, because the feelings of guilt will soon be felt.

Lack of motivation can be caused by discomfort in various areas of life, such as when we can’t find work and end up throwing in the towel. In these moments of crisis, when everything seems to be going wrong, we must strive to find a way out of this cycle of negativity. You don’t have to give up and, if the motivation doesn’t come by itself, you have to go and find it!

Remember why you want to achieve a goal

If you have lost motivation to accomplish a task, first try to think about why you want to accomplish it. The reasons why you want to do something must push you and help you get everything you set out to do. A simple reason that is important to you will be enough to be able to bring out all your emotional courage, and lead you to do everything to achieve the goal.

However, if you are unable to feel any motivation or believe that you do not have the necessary strength to achieve what you have proposed, it means that the reasons behind that task are not strong enough,  that you don’t really care.

An example to better understand this situation are people who want to quit smoking. Most of the time, people quit smoking for an important reason, such as because they care about their health. If they can’t stop, though, it means they’re not really convinced they want to.

When thinking about your goals, you need to ask yourself if they are important enough to you to endure all the emotional strain they will require of you. If the motivation fails you, you will have to ask yourself again why you want to do it, and have that clear reason in mind as you move towards the goal. Your main purpose is to empower the motivation you have within.

Even if you have big dreams, start with small steps

When you dream, you always have to do it big, to feel inspired to achieve a goal. When you start walking to achieve that dream, it is important that you move one step at a time. Only in this way will you be able to gather new strength every time you pass a step in the process.

For example, if you have a company and need to look for new customers, but you don’t want to do it because you think their answer will be no, start with a more realistic attitude and only call a few people. The important thing is to have a base to work on, to grow and support you when difficulties come. Little by little, without your realizing it, the motivation will grow with you.

Don’t forget to take care of yourself if you want to get good results

When you feel that you don’t want to move on or that things are not going the way you would like, you need to bring out perseverance and courage, along with a hint of pride. There is no point in hiding playing the role of the victim or thinking that misfortunes always happen to you. Thoughts like that won’t make you feel better and won’t even motivate you to reach your goals.

Do not lose sight of these fundamental points:

  • Visualize success. Visualization is one of the most powerful tools. If you can imagine it, it will be much easier to get it. The mind does not distinguish between what is real and what is not, so your mind can see the goal and figure out how to achieve it.
  • Surround yourself with people who support you. Get away from negative people and surround yourself with those who can give you positive insights and motivate you. However, don’t fall into the trap of depending on others to feel motivated: dedicate a few minutes a day to your positive thinking.
  • Remember that the important thing is not the destination, but the journey. It is essential to remember that when we want to achieve something, the goal is not the only thing that matters, so is the path. Enjoy what you do and the motivation will not fail you.
